Healthy Food and Junk Food

1.   Write about healthy food
Health food is food considered beneficial to health in ways that go beyond a normal healthy diet required for human nutrition.
2.   Write about junk food
Junk food is a pejorative term for food containing high levels of calories from sugar or fat with little protein, vitamins or minerals. Use of the term implies that a particular food has little "nutritional value" and contains excessive fat, sugar, salt, and calories.

3.   Complete chart about healthy and junk food and illustrate it.

How Science and Technology Affects Human Life?

1.       ¿What is science?

Science, from the Latin word “scientia” which means knowledge. It formulates theories and laws.
Science is the concerted human effort to understand, or to understand better, the history of the natural world and how the natural world works, with observable physical evidence as the basis of that understanding. It is done through observation of natural phenomena, and/or through experimentation that tries to simulate natural processes under controlled conditions.

2.       ¿What is technology?

Technology, from the Greek word “technologia” with means the study of art and skill. It uses the science´s theories and laws to make equipment and apparatus.
Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, etc. or it can be embedded in machines, computers, devices and factories, which can be operated by individuals without detailed knowledge of the workings of such things.

3.       ¿How is our life affected by science and technology?

Science and technology work hand in hand to improve the quality of human life. The development of science produces countless discoveries and inventions which give us positive and negative effects. There are lots of advantages and disadvantages in which the science and technology can give to people and its environment.

4.       ¿Is the present better than the past time?

Yes, because as we approach the twenty-first century, several new, more powerful technologies have made their way into households and offices. Faster communication is made possible through mobile phones and the internet. If you look around you, you notice that technology has grown so fast through the years that the results are quite overwhelming.

5.       ¿What are the advantage and disadvantages of science and technology?

There are lots of advantages and disadvantages in which the science and technology can give to people and its environment.

v  Advantages:
  1. Works can be through high-tech machines and equipment.
  2.  It gives less works for humans and our job can be done faster.
  3.  It makes us feel comfortable and easy to live.
v  Disadvantages
Science and technology is not giving us only the positive side but it also has its disadvantages that truly affect human life.

  1.  If we look around the surroundings, it is so crowded polluted and damaged which is caused mainly by the existence of invented technologies throughout the world.
  2.  Its existence totally affects our mother earth and our natural environment is replaced by new |big buildings and factories that are managed by technology-based owners.
  3.  Science and technology also affects our health and lifestyles. Chemicals produced by technology are hazardous to our health which will likely result to death and diseases.
6.       ¿Is technology used adequately by young people?

More or less, because reflecting on its advantages and disadvantages, we now realize its consequences when used by us. It is up for us if we protect ourselves from exposure or existing technologies and it is within ourselves where and what to believe among these effects.

Different Kinds of Pollution

Water Pollution

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies ( lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). This form ofenvironmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequatetreatment to remove harmful compounds.

Water pollution affects the entire biosphere – plants and organisms living in these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and population, but also to the natural biological communities.

Noise Pollution

Noise pollution or noise disturbance is the disturbing or excessive noise that may harm the activity or balance of human or animal life. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines and transportation systems, motor vehicles, aircraft, and trains. Outdoor noise is summarized by the word environmental noise. Poor urban planning may give rise to noise pollution, since side-by-side industrial and residential buildings can result in noise pollution in the residential areas.

Indoor noise can be caused by machines, building activities, and music performances, especially in some workplaces. Noise-induced hearing loss can be caused by outside (e.g. trains) or inside (e.g. music) noise.

High noise levels can contribute to cardiovascular effects in humans and an increased incidence of coronary artery disease. In animals, noise can increase the risk of death by altering predator or prey detection and avoidance, interfere with reproduction and navigation, and contribute to permanent hearing loss.

Soil Polution

Soil contamination or soil pollution is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (human-made) chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of waste. The most common chemicals involved are petroleum hydrocarbons, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (such as naphthalene and benzo(a)pyrene), solvents, pesticides, lead, and other heavy metals. Contamination is correlated with the degree of industrialization and intensity of chemical usage.

The concern over soil contamination stems primarily from health risks, from direct contact with the contaminated soil, vapors from the contaminants, and from secondary contamination of water supplies within and underlying the soil. Mapping of contaminated soil sites and the resulting cleanup are time consuming and expensive tasks, requiring extensive amounts of geology, hydrology, chemistry, computer modeling skills, and GIS in Environmental Contamination, as well as an appreciation of the history of industrial chemistry.the waste from factory is also a cause of soil pollution
